My PiYo Journey

I may be a grandmother, but before 2020, I was pretty active. My height is somewhere between 5'7" and 5'8", though the exact number seems to vary depending on who is taking the measurement, so I just call it 5'7 1/2". Before this plague hit, I was rockin' 160 lbs. (For those of you who don't know, for someone my height and age, that's right about perfect.) Since March 2020, I have put on over 30 lbs., which puts me scraping the overweight/obese category. I'm not okay with that. My normal routines that include clubbing, dancing, going out, keeping active in normal ways are not an option right now. My husband and I started the P90 program from Beachbody.com. Unfortunately, that program is designed for young, healthy people who have never been injured in their lives. I made it halfway through the program before saying, this is going to cripple me! I fractured my back when I was a kid and my knees are so bad that I have to wear braces to exercise (and go out dancing). At the end of some of the P90 videos there are ads for the PiYo program, so I decided to try it.

After starting this program today with the introduction-Align:The Fundamentals, I was really impressed. The modifications are a lot more customizable for people like me. Beyond that, the creator, Charlene Johnson, explains the purpose for each of the exercises, so if I need to modify for my injuries, I understand how to do so. I have high hopes for this program. I don't expect miracles, but in the absence of normal activity, this looks like a program that can fill that void without the risk of injury. With fingers crossed, here I go...
