People like to think that they are above all else on the planet. One of the ways we show this superiority is through order. Our homes must be immaculately organized; they must be scrubbed free of germs and everything must be in its place. Women, especially, take care to ensure that their homes are spotless and criticize others who don’t do the same. It’s a shame that this attitude of cleanliness does not carry over into the public domain.
If our cleanliness is something that sets us apart–makes us better than–the rest of the animal kingdom, why is it that public places have to hire specific people go around cleaning up after the public? Has anyone ever seen an unattended public restroom? The restroom doesn’t even have to be left alone for any length of time. If you look at the cleaning schedules posted for most restrooms, it is usually every 2 hours or three customers (when it’s slow). That means that every third customer will trash the joint. That’s pretty bad.
The worst part is watching how these women act in public. Walking into a public restroom to find a stall covered in blood that a woman just left, without bothering to even try to cleanup is beyond disgusting and rude. Finding bloody napkins or tampons floating in the toilet that she tried to flush rather than depositing into the container beside the toilet–again, disgusting and rude. Not to mention the wads of tp that get stuffed down the toilet, clogging it and disabling it so no one else can use it.
After these women have succeeded in doing all kinds of disgusting things in the stalls, they make it to the sinks. If they wash their hands, they splash water all over or wad the paper towels up and toss them anywhere other than the trash can.
I cannot, for the life of me, imagine these women behaving like this in their own home.
If people want to be thought of as anything other than animals, they need to act like they are something other than animals all of the time, not just when they feel like it.
