Then There Was Zelda

If you have a house with Link in it, you have to have Zelda, duh. Of course bringing her home wasn’t as simple as knowing that Link and Zelda belong together. After Bandit died, my husband and I looked around at a few different shelters in the SF Bay area. For some reason, running “specials” on adoptions fees seems to be a “thing” in California. I find that…weird. I mean, if people are going to add a member to their family based on “bargain pricing,” are they really fit for adding family members in the first place? Let’s not think too hard on that one, okay?

Another annoying habit in California shelters is naming the animals based on passing whims and themes. When we found Zelda in the shelter, they had just started a theme of naming the cats after famous actors/actresses, so she was being called Audrey Hepburn…yes, really. What I find interesting is that Zelda sat calmly in my lap while the other cat sharing the space hissed, scratched, and made a nuisance of itself, yet the the little teenaged worker did her best to convince me that I should take the other one… Hmm…trying to get out of a little work, eh?

Overall, Zelda is a good kitty. The shelter didn’t take very good care of her (big surprise), so she had some issues with her teeth early on. Because of the pain in her teeth, she would eat her food too fast (trying not to let it touch her teeth), then throw up a little later. After several vet visits, and removing the abscessed teeth, she rarely (if ever) throws up her food now, and has gained probably five pounds. She is an aspiring fat cat, but her playful nature is keeping her from achieving a true fat cat figure 😉

Zelda is perched on a satin pillow here in true diva fashion.

Zelda is a true diva at heart. She loves to be pampered, and will let you know when you’re not pampering her properly. When she comes to get her pets, she expects you to stop what you’re doing, and use both hands to pet her. Anything else is simply disrespectful. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, she will bring her fishing pole toy…with a bell on it…into our bedroom expecting us to get up and play with her. Now you know why my panty drawer is filled with cat toys.

We obtained both Zelda and Ganon at the same time, which caused a little bit of confusion in the beginning. When Zelda first got out of the carrier at our home, she didn’t realize that I was behind her and got scared. That upset her a little, so she was…stand-offish for quite a while, choosing to bond more with my husband…until Moblin came along. When she saw how much cuddling Moblin got, she decided that she wanted that, too, and started spending more and more time with me. It’s amazing what a little jealousy can do…Of course, she made sure to spend time with my husband. She wasn’t about to let any attention slip by her. Like I said, she is a diva who must be pampered.

She’s pure black, green eyed, cute as can be…and she knows it. Zelda sits at the top of the cat tree…because she can. She licks my husband’s head like he’s a kitten because in her mind, he is her kitten. She claimed him six years ago when she stepped out of that carrier. I’m just here to pet and pamper her…or so she thinks, and I don’t see a reason to change her mind.
